Construction crews are currently applying preliminary pavement markings on 18th Street, Main Street, and 16th Street. This is part of a two-step process: first, the preliminary markings are laid down, followed by the installation of the final pavement markings a few days later.
Beginning July 7th, Main Street will be closed for one week to allow crews to remove and repave the crosswalks, as well as the section of pavement at the intersection of Canal and Main Streets. During this time, exposed water pipes on Canal Street will also be removed, and the area will be filled and repaved. BUSINESSES REMAIN OPEN! SUPPORT OUR LOCAL BUSINESSES.
Looking ahead, the anticipated change to one-way traffic flow is scheduled to take effect on July 14th.

Downtown Merced is undergoing major improvements, including renovations at Bob Hart Square and along West Main Street as part of a larger revitalization effort. Upgrades to Bob Hart Square include an expanded plaza, new seating areas, additional trees, and a stage. The project, which began in March, also includes rerouting access to nearby parking lots by closing entrances on Canal Street and adding new ones on 16th Street. The area is being redesigned to serve more as a community gathering space than a parking zone. A series of three concerts is planned to celebrate the completion of the project, with the first event expected in October to mark the reopening of the square.
