Subject: Notification of Yosemite Avenue Roadway Reconstruction Project

We are writing to inform you about the upcoming Yosemite Avenue Roadway Reconstruction Project, which will begin Monday, April 14, 2025, and involve significant improvements to the roadway, sewer infrastructure, and traffic systems along Yosemite Avenue from G Street to Parsons Avenue.

The City of Merced is committed to enhancing local infrastructure to support the growth of our community, and this project is a critical part of that effort. Below is a summary of the planned improvements that will take place along Yosemite Avenue:

  • Sewer System Upgrades – Replacement of 5,147 feet of sewer main.
  • Traffic Signal Upgrades – Enhancements at key intersections along Yosemite Avenue.
  • Roadway Expansion – Full-depth reconstruction of the roadway and the addition of two new lanes to create a four-lane road.
  • Surface Improvements – Slurry sealing and asphalt overlay on critical sections of the roadway.
  • Pedestrian Accessibility – Sidewalk repair, upgraded ramps, and replacement of damaged trees.

To ensure the community is well-informed about this project, we invite you to attend a public meeting where you can learn more about the reconstruction project, get details on the construction schedule, impacts, and detours, ask questions, and provide feedback.

  • Date: Wednesday, April 2, 2025
  • Time: 6:00 PM
  • Location: Cruickshank Middle School Gym, 601 Mercy Ave, Merced

Impact on Businesses

We understand the importance of minimizing disruptions to your business operations during construction. While temporary closures and detours will be necessary, we are working diligently to ensure minimal impact. The following measures are in place to help reduce inconvenience:

  • Road Closures & Detours–Road detour and closure updates will be posted on the construction message boards stationed on Yosemite Avenue and through the Merced Connect Smartphone App available to download at cityofmerced.org
    • Temporary Traffic Delays – Expect delays in traffic flow during construction hours. We encourage customers to plan extra time for travel.
    • Business Access – Efforts will be made to maintain access to businesses, and temporary walkways will be provided for pedestrians when necessary.

What You Can Expect

Construction will begin on Monday, April 14, 2025, and the project is expected to take approximately five months to complete.

We recognize that construction projects can be challenging, and we want to support your business throughout the duration of this project. If you have any specific concerns or questions, or if you need assistance with accessing your business during construction, please do not hesitate to contact Joe Cardoso at 209-388-7508, or cardosoj@cityofmerced.org.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to improve the infrastructure of our community. We look forward to the completion of this project and the long-term benefits it will bring to your business and the surrounding area.

Sincerely,

Daryl Jordan
