City Announces Launch of Yosemite Avenue Roadway Reconstruction Project

Merced, Calif [March 21, 2025] – The City of Merced is set to begin the Yosemite Avenue Roadway Reconstruction Project, a major infrastructure improvement effort aimed at enhancing traffic flow, roadway conditions, and utility systems along Yosemite Avenue from G Street to Parsons Avenue. The project is set to begin Monday, April 14, 2025.

The project has been awarded to Rolfe Construction and will include significant roadway and infrastructure upgrades. Work is scheduled to begin in the coming weeks and will require road closures and detours throughout the construction period.

Project Scope

The Yosemite Avenue Roadway Reconstruction Project will include:

  • Sewer System Upgrades – Replacement of approximately 5,147 feet of sewer main, upgrading from an 18-inch to a 30-inch main.
  • Traffic Signal Improvements – Upgrades at Yosemite Avenue intersections, including G Street, Mansionette Drive, and Paulson Avenue. The traffic signal control box at G Street and Yosemite Avenue will also be relocated.
  • Roadway Expansion & Reconstruction – A full-depth roadway reconstruction from Mansionette Drive to Parsons Avenue and expansion of Yosemite Avenue to four lanes between G Street and Parsons Avenue.
  • Surface Enhancements – Slurry seal on Yosemite Avenue from Mansionette Drive to G Street and an asphalt overlay at the intersection of Yosemite Avenue and G Street.
  • Pedestrian & Accessibility Improvements – Sidewalk improvement, upgraded access ramps, and the removal and replacement of damaged trees.

Community Meeting Announcement

To keep the community informed, the City of Merced will be hosting a community meeting where residents and business owners can learn about the project, get details on the construction schedule, impacts, and detours, ask questions, and provide feedback.

  • Location: Cruickshank Middle School Gym, 601 Mercy Ave, Merced

Traffic Impacts & Community Information

Construction will require periodic road closures and detours. The City advises residents and commuters to allow extra travel time and follow posted detour signs. Regular updates on construction progress, traffic changes, and timelines will be provided through the City’s website and official social media channels.
