Road conditions, repairs, and long-term infrastructure planning are among the most frequently discussed topics in our community—and for good reason. The City of Merced is committed to improving the safety, efficiency, and longevity of our roadway system through a combination of strategic planning, community input, and ongoing maintenance.
This page was created at the request of City Council Member Bertha Harris to offer residents a centralized space to learn more about current and upcoming road projects, how they’re funded, and the work being done across departments to keep Merced moving.
What You’ll Find Here:
Updates on road construction and repair projects
Information on funding sources, including SB1 and competitive grant programs
Details from the City’s annual Capital Improvement Program (CIP), reviewed by the Planning Commission and approved by the City Council
Maintenance highlights, including the filling of over 48,000 potholes in 2024 alone
Insights into the roles of the Engineering Division and Public Works Department
Road funding and priorities are regularly discussed by the Transportation Subcommittee, most recently on March 11, 2025, and have been shared with the Tax Transparency Committee to ensure public visibility and accountability. The Engineering Division leads design, bidding, and project management for capital improvements, while the Public Works Department handles essential day-to-day maintenance like street sweeping, leaf cleanup, and minor repairs.
We encourage you to explore this site and provide feedback as we work together to maintain and enhance Merced’s roadways for everyone.
